STEPS NewsLaunch of Training, Options and Opportunities for Learning (TOOL) Centre. 26/10/2007 Five eastern shore neighbourhood centres (Risdon Vale, Rokeby, Clarendon Vale, Pittwater and Warrane/Mornington), together with STEPS Employment and Training Solutions, are working together to create and operate a new centre for assisting at-risk young people on the eastern shore to re-engage with their communities and develop their educational, vocational and life skills.
The Training, Options and Opportunities for Learning Centre (TOOL Centre) will operate along similar lines to the Student Works program in Launceston and “Chance on Main” in Glenorchy, in bringing the community, government and business sectors to work together in assisting young people in need. The TOOL Centre was formally launched on Friday, October 26, at the Warrane/Mornington Neighbourhood Centre. The program was launched by Vanessa Goodwin, Liberal candidate for Franklin, supported by The Federal Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator the Hon David Johnston. The project has been made possible by virtue of a substantial grant from the Australian Government. Mr Peter Marmion, Chair of STEPS Employment and Training Solutions, also made a presentation of $10,000 from STEPS to assist the project. The launch was attended by State and Federal parliamentarians as well as local government members, and representatives of all five neighbourhood houses and STEPS.
